AFC Bournemouth moved up to seventh place as two early goals from Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson left visitors Huddersfield losing two games in a row.

Much anticipation surrounded this game as both teams were looking to bounce back from defeats last week.

The Terriers have not beaten Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium since 2008 and it was a tough test for the visitors.

Bournemouth began on the front foot and took the lead inside the first five minutes.  A superb cross by winger Ryan Fraser was met with a powerful header by Callum Wilson. He fired the ball past Jonas Lossl to put the Cherries into the lead.

Straight after the goal, Bournemouth nearly went two goals up as King fired an ambitious attempt from the edge of the box. He was denied by Lossl who tipped the ball over the bar.

Bournemouth continued their attacking as Wilson was put through, only to shoot directly at an alert Lossl.

The second goal for the hosts came after a brilliant counter-attacking run by Wilson who put through Fraser. The Scotsman expertly slotted the ball past Lossl to leave the visitors stunned inside the first half an hour.

The link up play between Huddersfield winger Florent Hadergjonaj and midfielder Aaron Mooy began to test Cherries left back Charlie Daniels.

Hadergjonaj managed to swing in a cross to meet the head of Depoitre, only for the effort to be saved by Asmir Begovic.

The deficit was halved after Mooy delivered a dangerous ball into the Bournemouth penalty area which was met by Zanka. A powerful header from Kongolo slid it past Begovic.

As the first half whistle blew, Huddersfield began to increase the pressure. They were met by a rather resilient Bournemouth defence with expert blocks from centre-back Nathan Ake.

The hosts had the first chance of the second half as an excellent counter-attacking move between King and Wilson allowed King some space on the edge of the box. The Norwegian fired inches wide.

Nearing the hour mark, Mooy again attempted to beat Begovic with a low driven shot only to be denied by the shins of Begovic, keeping the hosts on the front foot going into the later stages of the game.

Huddersfield began to pile on the pressure and threw everything they had at their hosts with Steve Cook producing some excellent defensive headers from Philip Billing’s long throws.

Former Norwich City player Alex Pritchard also began to test the Bournemouth defence and nearly got the equaliser for Huddersfield. Pritchard had found space and lost his marker on the Bournemouth left flank only to have his well driven low cross met by the hands of Begovic.

With fifteen minutes remaining injury struck for the visitors as substitute Sabiri was brought off and replaced by Ramadam Sobhi in a forced substitution for head coach David Wagner.

Ake, who had been seemingly solid throughout the match, nearly put the ball past his own goalkeeper after a misjudged header.

In the closing phases of the match, Mooy tried again as Huddersfield tried desperately to get the equaliser.  The Australian international had managed to find space and his attempt whistled past Begovic and the Bournemouth left post.

As the full-time whistle was blown there was a mixture of emotions for both sets of fans in the Vitality Stadium.  For the Bournemouth fans, it was a sense of relief, having survived a bombardment of Huddersfield attacks. But for Huddersfield fans, a sense of frustration as their numerous attempts were unable to find the equaliser.

Nevertheless, Bournemouth took all three points as they challenge for a potential Europa League spot.

The result leaves more questions about the attacking options for Huddersfield. The visitors are in a battle to survive in the Premier League.

Bournemouth are now sitting above former Premier League champions Manchester United and Leicester City in 7th place level with Everton.

Huddersfield now sit just one points above the relegation zone in 17th.

Bournemouth next host Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
