Let’s see those moustaches!
Movember, running throughout the month of November, helps to raise money to support those tackling prostate and testicular cancer, as well as supporting mental health and suicide prevention. Every year during November, Men all around the UK grow out their moustaches in a movement to raise money for these causes.
The male suicide rate in 2018 was 17.2 deaths per 100,000 males, which went up significantly from 15.5 in the previous year. By 2030, it is the aim of the Movember charity to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25%. The movember charity are helping this to happen by providing resources for both those struggling with their mental health and for people who wish to help their family/friends who are struggling to cope.
The University’s Involvement
Bournemouth University student ambassadors, Liam Richards and Dominic Thomas, are actively getting involved by growing out their own moustaches, and encouraging university students to do the same.
Liam stated that there is a University leaderboard for the number of people at each UK university taking part in Movember. Both ambassadors are hoping for Bournemouth University to reach the top of the leaderboard, by getting students to grow moustaches, set fitness goals or host their own events which they will support or share.
