FIFA Awards ceremony was filled with excitement and counted with the presence of the greatest football stars
On 9 January 2017, the first edition of The Best FIFA Football Awards occurred. This sportive ceremony honoured and recognised the best players and coaches of 2016.
The selection criteria for football players was based on the sporting performance and general conduct on and off the pitch. The coaches were evaluated by performance and general behaviour of their teams.
The star of the night was Portuguese football player, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 31-year-old idol won The Best FIFA Men’s Player with nearly 35% of the vote.
Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann were also nominated in the same category.

According to CR7, 2016 was the best year of his career adding that: “it was magnificent on a personal level and a sports level.”
In fact, last year Cristiano won UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro 2016. He also accomplished UEFA Best Player in Europe, France Football Ballon D’Or 2016 and FIFA Club World Cup.
In terms of coaches, Claudio Ranieri won The Best FIFA Men’s Coach with over 22% of the vote, defeating the Portuguese national team coach, Fernando Santos and Real Madrid’s coach, Zinedine Zidane.
The Leicester City coach took the opportunity to express gratitude towards his players and fans stating that: “What happened in England last season was strange, amazing.”
Silvia Neid, one of the most successful players in German women’s football, wonThe Best FIFA Women’s Coach for the third time with nearly 30% of the votes.
For the 52 year old coach, winning this prize was the: “icing on the cake.”Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool supporters won FIFA Fan Award for the first time with nearly 46% of the vote.
Susan Black, Liverpool’s director of communications, affirmed that: “It’s great that supporters are being recognised at such a prestigious award.”
