Fresh off the release of their new album Combat Sports (out this Friday), The Vaccines will be performing at Bournemouth’s 02 Academy on Thursday 5th April.
The band are best known for their breakout single If You Wanna from the 2011 album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? Frontman Justin Young has won over fans and critics alike with his eclectic live performances over the last eight years, playing other memorable anthems from their records including Post Break-Up Sex, Wetsuit, Norgaard, and – more recently – I Can’t Quit.
The Vaccines’ music has drawn similarities with other big rock bands including The Libertines, Courteeners, and Kaiser Chiefs. Bournemouth is the third venue on the band’s UK tour, starting on 31st March in London, which will culminate in them performing at Reading & Leeds Festival before treating our neighbours across the pond to their sound.
The new album will ‘return to the roots’ of the band, sharing a similar style with their debut album, according to Justin. A handful of its tracks have been released already on Spotify and YouTube and there will surely be a strong emphasis on the new material for this tour.
Yours truly witnessed them headlining last year’s Truck Festival in Oxfordshire and they did not disappoint, so get down to the 02 Academy on the 5th April if you have even a passing interest in indie rock music.
You can expect to find a full review of the gig as well as an exclusive interview with drummer Yoann Intonti in the next issue of Nerve Magazine, out on Monday 16th April and available all around Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus.
