2020 is kicking off and Bournemouth is celebrating it all around. Whether you have just arrived as a new student or just come back, wait no more. Here is the line-up of Bournemouth University’s Refreshers Month.
Refreshers Fair 2020
First up is SUBU’s massive fair for studentson the 4thof February (10am – 3pm). This exhibition is free to attend for BU students and includes the chance to meet loads of SUBU societies, BU Sport teams and Volunteering groups that will be available during the semester. Also, there will be lots of societies and sport teams taster sessions happening in the upcoming weeks. Make sure to check the SUBU eventswebsite so you do not miss out on them.
Plus there will be a range of local businesses handing out special offers, discounts, music, food and drinks at the fair – so lots of opportunities to get freebies!
February Nights-Out Specials
LoveTrain: Last Stop Valentines Love Train
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, LoveTrain will hosting a bar crawl across 4 different venues,namely, Cameo, The Basement, Myu Bar and Vinyl Retro Bar. Entries will be free before 11PM, with tickets at £4.50. Bars will be open from 10:00PM until 4:00AM.
Just like other past events, such as last year’s Halloween Block Party, visitors will be able to go in and out clubs and have a mix of amazing music and artists throughout the night. Cameo will be hosting a chart, house and bass night with Rob Searle. DJ Tempa will be at the Basement kicking off the best R&B, hip-hop and urban music. Myu Bar will host The Real Brothers who will offer massive international tunes to attendees. Lastly, Mark Hatton will hold a night of old school, cheese and pop anthems at the Vinyl Retro Bar.
Old Firestation Nights

Techbox: East End Dubs – Thursday 6thof February
Techbox will be launching an East End Dubs techno nighton Thursday 6thof February to celebrate the end of Dry January. DJ Artists that are lined up include Matt Arnold, RSquared, Kewley, SparkeSTM and Versa, with supporting artists such as Sean Guillermo, Keeble, Josh Powell and Matt Fergusson. The event will open its doors at 10PM and will last at about 3AM. Tickets are just £7.50 and they are selling fast, so be quick to get them!
Horse Meat Disco – Saturday 8thof February
The boys of Horse Meat Disco will headline the Old Firestation on Saturday the 8thto celebrate the release of their first full length DJ album. The event will open its doors at 10PM and end at 3PM, with tickets at £10 each.
The band states on the Old Firestation’s website that it will be a night where they will reinforce ‘everything invigorating about disco, as comfortable as shattering an old-school mirror ball clichés as basking in their light.’ Their album features 14 tracks that will take listeners on an adventurous journey through dance music. The band was signed to Glitterbox after releasing their single, Waiting, which features Roy Inc. They are currently in the process of launching two other singles, Let’s Go Dancing(feat. Amy Douglas) and a second one that will feature Kathy Sledge.
THNKS FR TH MMRS: Emo Night – Monday 10thof February
For those with emo, pop punk and alternative music hearts, THNKS FR TH MMRS will be hosting a roaring twenties nightof music from iconic bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco. This will take place on Monday 10thof February from 10PM-3AM with tickets at £3. Expect loads of confetti, sing-alongs and student drink prices.
