This week is the start of National Careers Week. The event runs from the 7th to 11th of March and is an opportunity for you to get inspired about the future.
In the coming week 1,700 secondary schools, 400 colleges and 80 universities will be partaking in the event, including Bournemouth University.
The week is aimed to introduce quality careers advice and bridge the gap between education and employment.
The scheme was set up in 2011 by Nick Newman, founder of Careersbox.
In an Independent article he said: “I set the campaign up because it needed doing. The Government weren’t doing anything, careers advice was too disparate, and there was no clear guidance,”
The purpose of the week it to bring together students, employers and advisers and run different events and activities to help inspire the younger generation.
According to Trading Economics the youth unemployment rate stood at 13.4% in November 2015; with young people being three times more likely to be unemployed than the rest of the population, there is no better time than now to fix this critical issue.
Bournemouth University is one of the many universities helping to motivate and guide careers by putting on a whole host of events.
The week will include interactive sessions and Skype chats with BU graduates and four careers workshops led by BU careers advisors to provide support with interview skills, CV writing and business start-ups.
There will also be 14 graduate sessions throughout the week, where previous Bournemouth students will talk about their own experiences and successes, whilst offering advice and support to those who are current students.
