With an abundance of new beauty collections and awards ceremonies in January, we’ve compiled a round-up of the biggest beauty news from the first month of 2017.
Maybelline debuts their first male ambassador, Manny Gutierrez
Some of you may have heard of Manny Gutierrez, but I’m sure many of you haven’t. He’s an internet sensation, makeup god and all-round delightful human being. With a strong Instagram following, hundreds of makeup tutorials and the most incredible cut crease skills, you won’t be surprised to hear that he has been announced as the latest ambassador for Maybelline. The YouTube star, also known as MannyMua, will become the first male to fulfil the role. Obviously, this sent the internet into a complete frenzy of compliments.
Manny will star in Maybelline’s ‘That Boss Life’ campaign which promotes their new mascara.
Lush unveil their Valentine’s 2017 collection and LGBTQ campaign
The beauty brand revealed their 2017 Valentine’s Day creations last month, as well as a wonderful campaign alongside it. With same-sex couples enjoying the brand’s latest bath bombs and bubble bars together, you can see why people flocked to social media to praise the brand for being so inclusive and creative.
Huffington Post reports that Lush said “we believe that love transcends gender”, which is a beautiful way to put it.
Celebrities stun at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards
Awards season is something I love. The dresses, the makeup, the celebrations! In January we were treated to the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and the People’s Choice Awards, to name a few.
La La Land scooped up seven awards at the Golden Globes, and Emma Stone took a SAG Award for her performance too. Beauty wise, she stunned with a green tinted eyeshadow and softly waved hair.
Sophie Turner was another hit with fashion critics, with a striking red lip that matched her Louis Vuitton gown, paired with natural eye makeup and soft waves in her hair. At the same SAG ceremony, Kerry Washington wowed with a striking smokey eye and dramatic lashes. This was a complete contrast against her angelic white dress and understated hairstyle.
Kylie Jenner reveals her Valentine’s Day 2017 ‘kollection’
Who needs roses or cringeworthy teddy bears when you could have glittery eyeshadows? The youngest Jenner sister revealed her beautiful Valentine’s collection towards the end of January and the internet went wild.
Kylie unveiled the hefty haul via Snapchat, and it included two new Lip Kits in themed shades ‘Valentine’ and ‘Head Over Heels’. But that’s not all, she is also selling a mini matte liquid lipstick set consisting of popular shades like Maliboo and Mary Jo K, as well as two new valentines additions.
In terms of completely new releases, Kylie has created a ‘Diary’ that includes two blushes (something she has never previously made) and nine eyeshadows. This is all set into a book with a mirror on the left side. Inventive packaging aside, the pastel pink and glittery shades look beautiful and complimentary to all skin tones.
Lancôme completely up their highlighter game with a delicate rose
Beauty trends have a habit of going viral (we’ve all seen THAT rainbow highlighter) and Lancôme’s rose shaped attempt wasn’t an exception.
The french brand screams luxury, so of course, they created a highlighter that is delicately placed within rose petals… The buildable powder, which is layered on to the rose and placed inside a vintage style box, is available now for £35 as part of their Spring 2017 collection.
Here’s a funny one for good measure – girls ask their boyfriends what a beauty blender is
A twitter user named Selena attached a picture of a beauty blender to her tweet and wrote ‘girls, send your boyfriend this, asking him what it is and post the response here’. From this simple message, thousands of people shared their hilarious conversations with their significant others.
If you don’t know what a beauty blender is, it’s a sponge used to apply makeup. But apparently many men believe it is ‘boob stuffing’, a ‘tampon’, a ‘pink egg’ or even a ‘clown nose’.
