THERE IS NOTHING MORE INDULGENT THAN AFTERNOON TEA. FINGER SANDWICHES, CAKES, SCONES AND YOU GUESSED IT; COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF TEA. WHAT COULD BE BETTER? IT’S A NICE IDEA, BUT WHO CAN AFFORD THAT ON A STUDENT BUDGET? YOU’RE PROBABLY THINKING IT’S IMPOSSIBLE, BUT NERVE ONLINE IS HERE TO TELL YOU THAT IT’S NOT…

As a student, luxuries like afternoon tea are typically something you can only dream of having. Let’s face it, on your budget you would be happy with a biscuit to dunk in your tea. But everyone needs a treat every now and then. A comfort that can make the bleak times of university more bearable. Queue, Frieda’s Tearoom. The little gem hidden a couple of roads down from the Lansdowne halls of residence.

A couple of steps from your student confines, it’s an awfully tempting place to visit. But Is the little luxury worth venturing out for? Should you swap your on-offer shop-bought cakes for some style? Here’s our verdict.

The afternoon-tea:

Firstly, reasonably priced at £15, the afternoon-tea at Frieda’s is great value for money.

Homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches, it’s the ultimate treat that stretches your pennies.

It’s sweet, savoury and the perfect way to get a little bit of all the things that you fancy. Put into perspective, it’s three drinks on a night out that will have you full and satisfied for the rest of the day!

The afternoon tea is the ultimate treat

Frieda’s lunch menu:

If the afternoon tea is a bit too extravagant for your liking (it’s a far cry from your usual soup and toast), then Frieda’s is still worth a visit. The sandwiches are a great snack to mix-up your lunch a little. Reasonably cheap, it’s a definite way to have a taste of something you know will enjoy. Made on delicious homemade bread, (you can definitely taste the difference from the reduced loaf you are used to buying) it’s the ultimate way to have a homely meal without great expense.

Frieda’s drinks:

Opt for the afternoon tea and you will have all the tea you could dream of on hand. Or, opt for something a little more indulgent and you won’t be disappointed. The hot chocolates are rich, creamy and even come with Malteasers on top! What more could you want when you need a sweet pick-me-up?

The place:

The decor of this place can be best described as being just like your beloved grandma’s house. The best kind of escape when you’re feeling homesick,

it’s a cute cosy little haven in the middle of student surrounds.

For an hour or so you will forget that you are in the land of loud, lively youth and instead be the sophisticated person you wish your budget would let you be (or, just have a chance to enjoy some proper good grub!). screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-17-12-20

Frieda’s Tea Bus:

Lastly, the new addition is the Frieda’s Tea Bus! Cruise round Bournemouth in style across the beautiful Dorset coastline whilst munching on delicious sweet treats and sandwiches. It all sounds fabulous, but this one might be a bit much for the student budget. Maybe treat a friend for a special occasion (a very special one), or persuade your parents that it’s a must-do whilst you are living in Bournemouth (obviously making it very clear that they should pay!).

Essentially, everyone needs a bit of tea and cake in a homely setting from time-to-time. Although it may sound as though that would be too much your purse to bare, it’s surprisingly reasonable priced and well-worth the few pennies!
