Heart shape chocolates and red roses are starting to fill up in stores meaning one thing. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and whether you are single, in a relationship or “it’s complicated” don’t panic. Galentine’s Day, which falls on February 13th (alongside Pancake Day – just saying), is the perfect excuse to gather all your closest girls for a get together.
Any Parks and Recreation fan will remember Amy Poehler’s character, Leslie Knope declare Galentine’s Day back in 2010. The episode saw her throw a party for her friends to show “ladies celebrating ladies”. A dedicated day to celebrating female friendships, the fictional event has turned into a non-official holiday many women celebrate.
So as much as you may hate being single on Valentine’s Day, stop frantically swiping Tinder and enjoy a night with the girl’s drama free.
If you’re stuck for ideas this Galentine’s Day here are some fun suggestions.
Host a Singles’ Night in
If you’re more into lowkey celebrations, then hosting a night in is the perfect excuse. Movie nights always go down well so grab your favourite chick flicks for a movie marathon. Or binge watch Sex in the City, Gossip Girl or any other TV show you’ve seen a million times.
All you need is facemasks, popcorn and a beverage of your choice – job done. It doesn’t matter whether you decide to opt for Dominos Two for Tuesday or attempt to make a homemade meal – a night in with your besties will make you forget all your single woes.
What’s a better excuse to get all glammed up? Everyone loves a 2-for-1 cocktail so have some pre-drinks then head out to enjoy the various bars Bournemouth has to offer. Slug and Lettace and Las Iguanas have permenant happy hours, just saying. From Revs to Turtle Bay you won’t be short of options this Galentine’s Day.
Alternatively, pop to Asda and get the ingredients for homemade cocktails. Mix together some peach schnapps, vodka and cranberry juice and voilà you have the perfect woo woo! You can find lots of easy recipes here.
Head to the Cinema
Fill your bags with sweets and popcorn *definitely an overpriced purchase Odeon and not snuck in from Tesco* and head to the cinema for the evening. Whether you pick a comedy or opt for Fifty Shades Freed with your dream hubbie Jamie Dornan, the choice is yours. Make a day of it!
The main bonus? You can avoid your phone and the cringe #boydidgood posts for a few hours at least.
The most obvious choice but start the day as you mean to go on with a fancy brunch with your girlfriends.
Why not channel Leslie Knope’s love for waffles and treat yourself at Sprinkles? If you’re stuck for ideas then planning an outing at your favourite breakfast or brunch spot is a safe option. Cosy Club or Mad Cucumber do great breakfasts, and even a vegan option. It may even be bottomless brunch…
Depending on whether the Uni timetabling gods have been in your favour – take the day off and head for a fancy spa day. Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to grab a bargain, whether that’s restaurant deals or spa days. So, take advantage of those half-priced massages and spa offers and enjoy Galentines Day by escaping boy troubles and enter relaxation. Check out the latest Groupon deals here.
Whatever you decide to do this Galentine’s Day, having fun with your besties is all that matters. Maybe you’ll even ditch your boyfriend or girlfriend to hang with your besties!
