Entertainment News Weekly Roundup (22/04/2017)

Glastonbury

It’s Saturday, and time for your weekly entertainment news round up. It’s been an exciting Easter break full of entertainment news – so let’s take a look and see what’s been happening.

First off, perhaps not entertainment related but definitely extremely important. This week Theresa May announced that there will be a snap General Election on the 8th June 2017. The election was announced following recent Brexit debates in Parliament which have allegedly slowed the leaving process. The Prime Minister hopes that this will steer Brexit in the right direction. Although, eyebrows have been raised as May previously promised in a BBC interview that there would not be another election to at least 2020. To read more about this check out Chloe Desave’s article.

Broadchurch… The Final Chapter

On Monday we said goodbye to one of Britain’s best TV dramas in what was a beautifully written but equally harrowing story-line. David Tennant and Olivia Colman were once again phenomenal in their performances of detectives Miller and Hardy. This was the final episode in the third and final series of Broadchurch, which first burst onto our screens back in 2013. Fans were not disappointed either as the writers tied up all lose ends of the series, and we finally found out who raped Trish Winterman (Julie Hesmondhalgh). Broadchurch is one of the first British dramas to address the rape culture in all it’s horror, but still delivering it with sensitivity and all the expected emotion. It’s been claimed that 8.7 million of us tuned in to find out what really happened which is the largest viewing audience ever for the series beating the series finale in 2013 which had 8.6 million.

If you haven’t already, watch the series online, and if you’re at a lose end before leaving Dorset for the summer, check out Bridport’s ‘West Bay’ cliffs, the famous scenes feature in the gif above.
