Student Action for Refugees will be marching in tonight’s anti Trump protest at Bournemouth Square.

Last week the student supported charity hosted a banner making session where students had the opportunity to talk to the committee.

Nina Nagel, Vice President of STAR Bournemouth, talked about the history of the new society.

We started off in September 2016 with two people and now have a full committee.

We have a lot of people that volunteer with us as well…we’ve been a fast growing society, definitely.

She also addressed some of the reasons that STAR was taking part in the protest.

Trump is so against what we stand for. He wants to ban Muslims out of the US. He wants to reduce the number of refugees that the US takes in. We want to show that [migrants] are people that need help.

Leyan Yucel, marketing and Communications Officer for STAR Bournemouth, talked about some of the reasons why the group wanted to get involved.

The fact that [Trump] is not letting in refugees is something we’re completely against so we wanted to get involved just to send a message. We want refugees to be welcome in the UK and in Dorset in particular.

The event will be taking place at Bournemouth Square between 6pm and 8pm on Monday February 20th.
