Bendall’s Boxing Promotions brought another exciting night of boxing to the 02 Academy in Bournemouth on the 29th November, with Dorset middleweight prospects Lee Cutler (7-0-0) and Jack Simpson (2-0-0) overcoming their opponents in front of a packed home crowd.
Former professional boxer and current promoter, Steve Bendall, spoke exclusively to Nerve Sport on his overall assessment of the show. He said: “The night showed that we’re growing as a stable and as a promotion.
“Jack Simpson looked great against a very awkward opponent in Shaun Watt (1-7-0) until Watt pulled out.
“Lee (Cutler) was fantastic but tried a little too hard at times. He’s progressing very well. We’re giving him harder opponents and that brings the best out in him.”
The O2 Academy crowd also welcomed back new Cruiserweight Commonwealth Champion Chris Billam-Smith, who beat Liverpool’s Craig Glover for the title on November 23rd. He took centrestage at the interval, showing off his new gold hinting at a potential title defence in Bournemouth next year.
At some point televised boxing will come to Bournemouth
Bendall also flirted with the idea of hosting a huge show with Billam-Smith potentially headlining supported by Lee Cutler. He added: “We are lucky with Chris (Billam-Smith) as he is at that level now where we can put Lee (Cutler) under him on the undercard. But we don’t want to be an undercard fighter, we want to be the main fighter.
“I have spoken to a couple of broadcasters about opportunities to televise our shows. With the stable we’re building here and especially with Chris (Billam-Smith) who is now a TV fighter, at some point televised boxing will come to Bournemouth. I feel we can put on a massive show.”
Don’t miss Lee Cutler on The Boxing Show! The middleweight pro will be joining us live in the Nerve Radio studio on Sunday 8th December – 11-1pm.
