Interview, words and photographs by Alex Standen
For the first male feature of what’s in my uni wardrobe, I caught up with BU business student, friend and fellow streetwear enthusiast Aaron Hoang. See below for Aaron’s functional style, how he got into fashion and why he can’t live without his 1990 expedition jacket.
After a quick catch up on why Supreme is dying and the streetwear game is becoming more and more frustrating, I asked Aaron a few questions:
How would you describe your style?
Techy. Functional. If I think it’s going to be a shitty day, I’ll dress in preparation. I get cold easy haha.
What first got you into fashion?
Music artists wearing stuff. Seeing people like Joey Badass, the whole Pro-Era scene. East Coast NY rap, as well as underground British rappers like Rejjie Snow and King Krule. I don’t like to copy, but inspiration is definitely important.
The North Face 1990 Trans-antarctic Expedition Jacket, Nike Cargo Pants, Nike Current Huarache ‘Hufquake’
What’s your favourite item that you own?
My 1990 Trans-antarctic TNF expedition jacket. (Which, by the way, is one of the most ridiculous jackets i’ve ever laid eyes on).
Air Max 98 ‘Rio’, Puma x Bape Shorts, Stüssy x Bape T-shirt, Supreme x TNF Expedition Backpack
For the silhouette? Flyknits. Other than that it’s definitely my Nike x Atmos Air Max 1 ‘Viotech’ from 2003.
COMMES des GARÇONS T-shirt, Edwin Denim, Nike x Acronym Presto
What’s your ‘grail’ item?
Nothing really, I just sorta buy stuff whenever I see something I like. Maybe just to finish the set and find the other 1990 expedition, but other than that nothing.
Any pet hates you see at university?
No not really. People dress how they want to.
Spring Summer or Autumn Winter?
Autumn Winter definitely.
