We are nearing the end of 2016 and throughout this year there have been numerous fashion trends we hope continue into the new year. This year we saw street style evolving and high fashion becoming a part of our everyday closet. Undoubtedly a lot of our money went into buying new clothes and we’re not mad about it. Here are the top 10 fashion trends of 2016.
Over the Knee Boots
These boots have been seen everywhere and were popularised by the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. We’ve seen these all through 2016 styled with oversized shirts and bodycon dresses and they were a staple in everybody’s wardrobe. We don’t see these going anywhere in 2017!
We’ve seen these silky embroidered jackets all over the runway and on stars Drake, Harry Styles and Wiz Khalifa . The Japanese style jackets which date back to WWII where soldiers had embroidered jackets made as souvenirs took the fashion world by storm.
Fishnet tights became a huge streetwear trend and we saw many people styling them under ripped jeans and skirts. The stereotype that fishnets were ‘trashy’ dispersed with new looks making them look high fashion with added sex appeal.
Tour Merch Trend
Tour Merchandise became the modernization of a vintage band tee this year. The Yeezus Tour, The Pablo Tour and The Purpose Tour are just a few of the tours whose merchandise is available outside of concerts because of their popularity.
In 2016 we’ve seen everyone turn everything into a dress. From oversized sweatshirts, extra-large hoodies and t-shirt dresses this trend added some comfort to street style.
The 90s style mom jeans were a trend that was everywhere in 2016 with almost every star rocking a pair! The nostalgic denim trend made us know skinny jeans were overrated and mom jeans were back.
Duster Coats were a trend this year because they heightened simple outfits and turned them into memorable looks. We saw Beyoncé wear this trend and instantly went out and bought one.
The choker was seen with almost every outfit in 2016! Not only was it the perfect accessory it brought back the ever popular 90s style and will probably still be seen in the new year.
The trend of the silk slip dress brought elegance to 2016 and could be seen glammed up with some stilettos or made casual over a t-shirt. The t-shirt over the slip dress was a big summer trend and may just stick around.
The velvet trend seems to be a favourite amongst celebrities including Victoria Beckham, Zendaya and Gigi Hadid. We’ve seen it on boots, dresses and skirts and the vibrant colours and soft touch left us with high fashion vibes.
