Freshers week is, without a doubt, an event that cannot be missed. But after endless rounds of Jägerbombs and testing out almost every club in town, it can become monotonous.

From indie acts to a night with all things Kanye, here are some ‘other’ events taking place in the forthcoming weeks to help make your Freshers one to remember!

> Sixty Million Postcards

This is just one of the amazing live music venues we have in Bournemouth. The eclectic bar is home to some of the best nights during Freshers, and throughout the year, that’ll have you dancing, quizzing and moshing to your heart’s content. 

Saturday September 16th – Yeezy Taught Me presents The College Dropout

Celebrating the start of freshers with all things Kayne, Applebum’s Adam Fox will be mixing the best original productions, features and samples for your listening and boogying pleasure. To top it all off, entry is free! What more could you want? 

Saturday September 23rd- The Soul Beat Society

This a free bi-monthly night, filled with soul, pop, garage and funk. Get your dancing shoes on and hot step it down to Sixty for the first of many funky nights.

Make sure to look out for Frau DJs who will be at Sixty for their Welcome Home Party on the 30th. The party will return after a long festival season away. 

Monday 23rd October – WBF presents Dream Wife + LEECHES + Lyra

This one takes place after freshers but is one to look forward to! Brighton’s Dream Wife headline an intimate show in Bournemouth. Armed with razor-sharp pop tunes and a take no prisoners punk attitude they are known to elicit pure chaos at their raucous live shows. Support from local bands LEECHES and Lyra, showing that Bournemouth has talent!

> TRNS

Some of the best nights in Bournemouth are hosted by TRNS. They have been bringing both local and international bands to the independent venues of Bournemouth for almost 4 years now. For a heavy, sweaty night of live music like no other head down to an event held by music experts TRNS.

Monday 18th September – Freshers Fuzz Fest 2017

TRNS are back for their fourth year to host their annual Freshers Fuzz Fest featuring some of the best indie bands from around the country! Just some of the names include the likes of LEECHES, Van Zeller, LUMER and Hotel Lux. Limited tickets are available over at http://trnsrecords.com. 

> Chaplin Bar & The Cellar Bar

Suited out with what could be the quirkiest pub garden in Dorset, Chaplins is the only place to be. Renowned for its amazing live music, its an iconic venue in Dorset well worth checking out. If your feeling alternative, head over to Boscombe for a night of local, live music.

We recommend the Open Mic Night on the 20th to show off your lungs, followed up by Sunday Evening Jazz to wind down after a long week of drinking and partying.

> The Anvil

From the team that brought you Buffalo Bar in Winton, The Anvil is the rock bar in the heart of Bournemouth, literally and figuratively. Open from 5pm to 5am you can enjoy live music and a huge collection of delicious bevies all night. And to top it off, Tuesday is Student Salvation, giving students 20% discount on everything from 7pm.

Sunday 22nd October – WBF Presents Fickle Friends

Brighton band Fickle Friends, as a part of their UK tour, stopover at The Old Fire Station for a night of pop perfection.

Bringing you only the best local and upcoming artists, We Broke Free are our saviours for live music in Bournemouth. 

They are on a mission to free you from the mundane and to deliver music alternative from the mainstream. Past bands include the likes of Blossoms, Wolf Alice, Courtney Barnett, The Magic Gang, Drenge, The Wytches, and many more!

Thursday September 28th – WBF & Chalk Ink presents: Sløtface & Towers

We Broke Free is the blessing for your Thursday night with a free rock show at Sixty Million Postcards. Norwegian pop-punk based Slotface and Towers take to the stage for an evening of soaring vocals, hard riffs and crunching guitars.
