Joshua Coase’s Tracks Of The Week

Lilla Vargen – Downtown

Lilla Vargen - Downtown

Lilla Vargen becomes the first artist to feature on New Music Monday twice since the show launched seven weeks ago, this time with her elegant cover of the Majical Cloudz track Downtown.

The Northern Irish singer first appeared on the scene two years ago with a few demos which caught the attention of music critics and listeners in Northern Ireland but it has taken her time to find her feet and now she is beginning to release new material.

Lilla featured on my second show, when I played her beautiful ballad Hold On, the title track from her first EP, which was released on Friday.

Downtown is a contrast to her previous single and the other track on the EP, The Only One Who Truly Loves Me. Rather than solely being accompanied by an acoustic guitar, Downtown is a more up-tempo pop track, featuring quaint synth sounds, yet this song still showcases the best of Lilla’s beautiful and striking vocals.

Plan B – Heartbeat

Plan B - Heartbeat

Plan B is back on the scene for the first time in five years and the majority of articles you will find marking his return focus on his image transformation and weight loss.

I’ll leave that to the tabloids and focus on his new track Heartbeat, which reminds me of some of his best songs Prayin’ and Stay Too Long.

Benjamin Paul Ballance-Drew’s 2010 album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks featured a wonderful blend of soul, old school R&B mixed with contemporary R&B and hip-hop. His new single Heartbeat also captures this and is bound to be a hit.

This is the second single from the rapper’s forthcoming album, Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose, which is due for release next April.

Kaixen – Wasting Time (feat. DVWEZ & Native Youth)

Kaixen - Wasting Time

Kaixen is a producer/multi-instrumentalist from Miami who has just released his new album Pecado, featuring the singles Brand New, In Private and this perfect chill and unwind track Wasting Time.

This song was brought to my attention by Majestic Casual, who have featured several of his tracks on their YouTube Channel.

Kaixen has been a support act for both Two Door Cinema Club and Jett in the past and this track captures an essence of the 80s blended with contemporary electronic pop.

The icing on the cake for this track is that it features some wonderful saxophone interludes from The 1975’s John Waugh.

Jarreau Vandal – Kombucha Burps

Soulection - Unite: A Relief Compilation

This track is different to anything I’ve played on the show before due to the fact that it is an instrumental track and it hasn’t been released for commercial purposes.

Kombucha Burps is one of 10 tracks which features on a special charity compilation produced by Soulection. The album has been released to help raise money and provide support for those who have been affected recently in Puerto Rico, The Virgin Islands, Dominica and Mexico.

The album features a series of instrumental tracks , including this one from Jarreau Vandal, which gives you a flavour of music from other continents and if you like what you hear you can donate and download the album here.

You can only donate for the next two weeks so make sure you act fast, it’s for a good cause!

Joshua Coase’s Album Of The Week

Majid Jordan – The Space Between

Majid Jordan - The Space Between

20 months after the release of their self-titled debut album, Majid Jordan are back with The Space Between.

I’ve been looking forward to the release of this album for awhile now, especially after I played their track My Imagination (feat. DVSN) on the second show.

The Canadian duo are signed to the label co-founded by Drake, OVO Sound, and they have collaborated with him in the past on the track My Love.

While Drake does not feature on this album, if you are a fan of his then you will certainly like Majid Jordan. The duo’s singles Phases and Body Talk are great up-tempo R&B hits, while My Imagination showcases the best of Majid Al Maskati’s vocals, he has an incredible range!

As well as the tracks I have mentioned above, Gave Your Love Away, Asleep and One I Want (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR) are all well worth listening to.
