FILM REVIEW – Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War

Shemonti Shams reviews Marvel’s latest film, Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America returned with a bang for the third installment of his movie, and this time he teamed up with his other superhero friends. Captain America: Civil War hit the cinemas in the UK last Friday, with critics and fans alike raving about it being the “best Marvel movie ever”.

Unless you have been living under a rock this past year, you have probably seen the posters and trailers all over the place for Captain America: Civil War. For those who don’t know, the film will follow Cap (Chris Evans) trying to protect to his best friend, Bucky (the very handsome Sebastian Stan), from the authorities, who is the prime suspect for some recent attacks. Meanwhile, Cap is fighting fellow Avenger Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) about a new accord that will monitor the superheroes. This causes a split between the Avengers community, and chaos ensues. We see the return of heroes such as Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and some newer faces like Spiderman (Tom Holland) and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman).

In my opinion, Civil War is probably one of the best, if not, the best Marvel movie so far. The sheer amount of superheroes present is exciting, the movie is filled with several plot twists,  the audience  laugh, and let’s not forget this movie did a great job to increase the hype for their individual films. This movie was unique in the sense that they are fighting annoying government officials and a very scary villain, but the Avengers are also fighting among themselves, friends are fighting with each other, and for MCU fans that is very nerve racking.

Although this movie was great, it did have some faults. As a movie-goer, I wish there were more shocking scenes. Marvel kept the ending of the film very clean (to the happiness of some comic readers); Marvel had the chance to follow the comics and have an extremely tear-jerking ending, however, they stayed true to their 12 rating, and nothing of the sort happened.

Captain America: Civil War has left the fans excited for what is to come for the future. There are many unanswered questions leading to buzz for all the future films to come, but it can be undoubtedly said that Civil War is the front runner for the biggest blockbuster for this year so far.
